Volunteering with Leeds YOS

*** Please Note ***  We are no longer seeking volunteers for the rest of 2012...

There are a number of roles that volunteers can undertake that involve working with young people aged 10 –17 years that are serving a community sentence and being supervised through Leeds Youth Offending Service. No formal qualifications are required and after applying to volunteer with Leeds Youth Offending Service, the recruitment process involves an informal interview. This will be followed by a Foundation Training Course and Role Specific Training for successful applicants.

Victims and Restorative Justice

Restorative justice processes enable victims to have their say and receive answers to questions they may have, whilst offenders are given the opportunity to help put things right. Many young people engage in reparation as part of their programme. Reparation means 'saying you are sorry and doing something to prove it'. It involves meaningful activity for the young person which also enables them to make a contribution to the community or directly to their victim.

Leeds YOS values comments from local people about ways in which young people can make amends. If you have any ideas or comments about possible reparation activities in your area then please email John Clark at john.clark@leeds.gov.uk or telephone 0113 395 7133.

Student Placements in the Leeds Youth Offending Service
We receive many requests for student and observational placements or visits. We have an arrangement with Leeds Metropolitan University and Huddersfield University to take 2nd Year and Final year Social Work Students. We have also offered places to final year Youth and Community students. Those account for the whole of our capacity to supervise student placements.

We regret we are NOT in a position to offer placements to any students following purely academic HE courses or students undertaking FE courses. All requests or enquiries about placements should be routed through the Training Coordinator - Emma Falk - emma.falk@leeds.gov.uk or telephone 0113 395 7220.
